Self-Employment Taxes and Tax Issues Workshop for Artists – January 7, 2015

The City of Bangor’s Commission on Cultural Development will be hosting a workshop on self-employment taxes and tax issues, particularly those relevant to artists, both new and established.

Lily Dalton, Hilary Clark, and Al Faust, from EFS, will be offering a one-hour presentation, with a 30-minute question and answer period to follow, to help artists navigate the complexities of business taxation.

What you will learn:

  • The different types of business entities, and the advantages and disadvantages of each
  • Self-employment and income taxes, and how and when businesses must pay them
  • Deductible business expenses, and reporting requirements
  • The home office deduction, the (new) simplified method for deducting home office expenses, and when you qualify to take it

Who should attend:

This seminar is geared towards both established professional artists, and to those who are looking to start their own businesses. We will attempt to cover the widest range of topics, from generalities to specifics, to provide the most information possible in a short period of time. For those people with specific questions, the question and answer period should be especially valuable.

Call Caitlin Brooke at (207) 992-4234, or email her at caitlin.brooke@bangormaine.gov, if you are interested in attending.
